For children of all ages from at least 4 years

The reputation has already carillonné it, the bells of Sunday will confirm: the new Annaud arrived. It is entitled "Two brothers", and staged two unknown superstars, eye velvety, but sharp fangs: what Tigers. Babies first, great then, born in the Cambodian jungle, abducted from their mother by naughty hunters, separated, tame, caged, in an arena and, finally, together. If the game of "The bear" vein, Jean-Jacques Annaud offers here the show exemplary public: well carried out even if the great may find it a little long , spectacular but never frightening, finally mocking. For children of all ages, from at least 4 years. Toddlers need not be jealous: they also have their Easter egg, "You Choupi", an animated film to the right length (1 h 10 min) which gives life to the famous little boy-Penguin. Adults, they are invited to travel. They cross the Mediterranean with Nadir Moknèche, which, in "Viva Laldgérie", shot in Algiers with two magnificent comédiennes, gives for the first time a realistic image of a country barely out, perhaps, of the civil war and, obviously, is today for new compasses. Or accompany to Rome great Ettore Scola, who, in "Gente di Roma", pays tribute to his town in filming a handful of people, young and old, with malice and tenderness. Meet in American pubs, smokers, famous or unknown, as Jim Jarmush made philosophise on the coffee, and tobacco in "coffee and Cigarettes", in a succession of short scenes a little repetitive but often delicious. Better, however, prevent the passage of California with Vincent Gallo, who, in "The Brown Bunny", is a never-ending road-movie, silent, unbearably narcissistic and, at the end, unpleasantly pornographic! But the brave can go discover well deceptive appearances, in the remarkable documentary "capturing the friedmans", the jury prize at Sundance, which leaves groggy heavy paedophile secrets of a family of Long Island University...

Finally, note three times: "Scarface", in Brian De Palma, with Al Pacino, "The misunderstood", sumptuous mélo on the childhood of Luigi Comencini, and "The life of Brian" Monty Python, joyful parody of the Gospels, a good antidote to "The Passion of Christ" by Mel Gibson.

Always on display

A "Passion" in the form of unbearable display abuse... it will leave to the indomitable. Better first still think children on holiday, to be the angels looking fly "Kiki the small witch", travel initiation with his cat, in the delicious Japanese Hayao Miyazaki animated film. And then leave, again, far away: in the post-Soviet Armenia with the Kurds zany and engaging "Vodka Lemon" in the mysterious "shara" Japan, slow but sumptuous story of grief and a renaissance in the fundamentalist Afghanistan to "osama", where the Taliban reduced women to the State of ghosts. Or in imagination this time smiling "Big Fish", poetic tale of Tim Burton...

On the small screen

Friday: even a trip to the Japan, this time in the hell of a multinational offices in Tokyo, with "Shock and earthquakes", of Alain Corneau, who heads a Sylvie Testud outstanding (21 hours, Canal ). Sunday: festival of classics. Arte broadcasts delicious film, Lubitsch "Heaven can wait", but heresy, in French (at 20 h 45). It is better to hear English Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles in "The lady from Shanghai" (20 h 45, CC Classic) or Paul Newman in "The color of money" of Scorcese (20 h 50, CC success)!
